Advanced practice programme for governance professionals

This module introduces a programme for governance professionals with sound practice experience who have already completed the Judicium Introduction to clerking and Intermediate programmes. It provides the opportunity to audit your current competencies and then plan and complete further learning to improve your knowledge of effective governance and good clerking practice. Signposting Learning Link e-learning modules and other NGA sources it gives you the freedom to study selected modules in whatever order works best for you depending on your learning priorities. There are examples of how to plan your learning and the study record enables you to keep track of your progress through your chosen modules. On completion of the programme you will have a better understanding of how good governance works in different settings across all key areas and how you can be more assertive and strategic in supporting your boards.

There may be times where you think that your chair or board is not working quite as effectively as they could. As the governance professional, you may need to step up and 'clerk courageously' to influence your board and steer it in the right direction when this happens. Through the use of interactive scenarios showing common problems and video discussions of possible approaches from two experienced governance professionals, this module will give you an understanding of the role and expectations of the governance professional when it comes to improving the effectiveness of the board and help you to use your skills and knowledge to clerk more courageously.

Through the use of interactive activities, scenarios and helpful tips from an experienced governance professional, this module will help you to build your confidence when it comes to advising your governing board or committee, ultimately enabling them to make decisions that are fully researched and thought through.
